A Few Craft Projects

I've been making Valentine Cards. I like to find vintage cards and photo's that I can re-do into new cards. I scan them, cut them sometimes, embellish, glitter. Not done yet, I still have more, but this is what I've done so far.

Not totally happy with this one, I may re-do it? Maybe add something else.

Yesterday was cold and windy, which really made me feel lazy for some reason. So I planted myself on the couch and just rested. However it wasn't a total waste I made these paper rosettes. Now they really aren't completely finished, I need to embellish the middle now.

Hello, I'm back. Between Christmas and renting a booth in a Arts and Crafts Mall in a near by town I've been pretty busy. Here are few things I've been making.

These are some Valentine Fabric Keepsake Books I made to sell in my craft booth. They have little pockets inside which are perfect to put small gifts in.

My sister Christine loves and collects buttons. She is even in a Button Club. So I made her this using white and cream colored buttons. She loved it and took it to her Button Club. Where she said it got great reviews.

Pumpkin Carving

I'm not really into Halloween , except to hand out candy to all the precious little ones. However I love to carve pumpkins!!! So when The Calendar Garden was offering a class on carving pumpkins, I knew it would be so much fun!!! Especially when one of my friends from "The Crazy Garden Gals" was going!!! You can see Pammy's garden blog here . We had so much fun, but were the only two who didn't finished and had to finish at home. We both picked the owl, because he was just so cute. I did notice in the lighted pumpkin picture his little feet didn't show up. I guess I will work on that tomorrow.

The Snowmen Again And Wire Tree

OK I know I've already posted photos of some of these snowmen on my blog. What I really want to show is the cool wire tree I got this weekend. I have been looking and looking for a way to display these snowmen, what I wanted was a vintage wire tree. But I was willing to compromise and use a wire tier basket, if I could fine one. I set my price in my mind and prayed, while looking at antique stores, I found a wire tree. However it was their display and they wouldn't sell it. I looked for vintage wire 3 tired baskets. I found some BIG ones, but I wanted one that would sit on a tabletop. Anyway they were out of my price range. We went back to the motel and changed for the event we were attending that evening. On the way, we passed another antique store that was going out of business. So we pulled into the parking lot, good thing we were running early. We went in and looked around, they were letting things go cheap. It was full of shoppers and they were buying lots of stuff. So while we were waiting to ask about a price on something else, there it was sitting on the counter!!!! A wire tree, I asked is that for sale, yes!!! How much, $15.00, I'll take it!!! I holds lots, so I've got to get busy and fill it up with handmade ornaments. I'm having a booth at a craft show in Dec. Wild Morning Glory Flowers

I planted Heavenly Blue Morning Glory flowers to grow up my trellis on craft cottage porch. I had a beautiful plant, the only problem. I only got one blossom and I missed it!!! Not sure of it was the drought or what? I will try again next year. So this morning taking a bucket of potato peelings to my compost pile I walked right over some wild morning glories. So I grabbed my camera and took a picture. They are one of my favorite flowers. Thought I would share them with all of you.

World Handmade Card Day

This one of the cards I made for "World Handmade Card Day". A Christmas card using Christmas and country looking fabrics. It may not be one of the best card I've ever made, but I like it anyway. I see some things I would do different. There's not even any glitter on it?

My son made this card for World Handmade Card Day. He wanted it to look manly and old. I had to laugh, he was trying to find a surface in my craft cottage that had no glitter. He didn't want any glitter on his card or on himself. He said mom you always have glitter on you!! LOL I did point out to him the sign on have on the entrance door to the cottage "Warning....Glitter Zone."

Had my first craft table. I so was busy making handcrafted items for it. I made more wall hangings, bookmarkers and these snowmen ornaments. Each one is different. I used the clear glass balls you can buy at craft stores, beads, vintage jewelry, all kinds of embellishments and lots of glitter!!! I'm planning to make some more to sell at another craft show here in my home town, but this one will be closer to Christmas. I will show the wall hangings here in a few days.

First Day of Art Class

On our first day of school, some of my students didn't make it to class because of the fires. So in my morning class I only had Hannah. I didn't want us to get too far ahead, so after a very short drawing lesson we made these adorable owls using paper and toilet paper rolls. These are the two she made, look how she made eyes. They are looking at each other, how cute is that! That was two weeks ago. Today class is getting back to normal and so is life for me. Wish I could say the same for those who lost homes in the wildfires. I'm thankful that none of my friends or students lost their homes!!! I'm thankful for the firemen who worked for about a week containing these awful fires. We've had several much needed rainshowers and the weather is beginning to cool down some. We still need more rain, but I'm so thankful for the little we have gotten.

Just a little note about Hannah, one of my very first post was about her 4th birthday party and here she is a big 7 year old.

Please Pray For Rain In Texas

All these dark looking clouds are really smoke from one of Texas's many wildfires. It looks closer than it is, but it's close enough for us to smell the smoke. Today it was so strong it made my throat burn and there were ashes, burnt leaves and plants coming out of the clouds of smoke. It covered our cars and anything outside. These pictures are from the fires in Montgomery, Grimes and Waller Counties. I have many friends who have had to evaluate from their homes. At this moment they are not allowed back to see if they have a home left. Because of the drought in Texas all the trees and plants are dying. Which is fuel for the fire. Tropical Lee brought in high winds that made the fires jump and made it impossible for the firefighters to put out. Just when it looks like they have contained, it flares up again. The wind and conditions are causing it to spread. My home and family are safe for now, but with fire you never know where and when another fire could start. We have another fire going strong that has burnt many homes in a town call Bastrop. My prayer is that Texas would get lots of needed rain in the next few months. I know that there are other States that are having fires, floods and hurricanes. We need to be on our knees praying for our Country!!!

Heart Wall Hanging

My latest wall hanging. I bought the heart shaped doily at an antique store in Corpus Christi on vacation this summer. I layered it with black wool felt on the back and muslin fabric on the front. Then I stitched on a red heart, black tulle and black lace. I wrote out the bible scripture on muslin fabric. I embellished with red and black beads, a rhinestone button. The flower with the feather came from a headband I bought at a grocery store for one dollar, I also bought a white one. I'm sure it will show up on another project in the future.

Rag Rug Purse

I made this purse using the rag rug technique that my friend Heather from The Patchwork Heart uses to make adorable rugs. I used muslin fabric. It is so soft and fluffy, I'm very happy the way it turned out.

I found this lamp shade at a antique store on our vacation. I had been looking for a lampshade for this lamp that goes beside my chair in my craft cottage.......I saw this one and knew it would be perfect. It's kind of stained, but I think that makes it even more interesting. The lamp was brass and I painted it the same color as the lampshade. It has that cottage look.

Texas Wall Hanging

This wall hanging has been shuffled around my craft cottage for several months half finished. Yes, a UFO!!!!! I was struggling with it, you know what I mean? I knew it needed something special, but what? Then I remembered that rusty star I had it hanging in the window of my craft cottage, It was covered up by a lacy valance. The perfect thing! So I finished it yesterday. Still not sure I really like the outcome, I may changed it still. But I can cross it off my to-do list for now and that is always a good feeling!!

Welcome to my craft cottage!! When I read that Karen Valentine of My Desert Cottage was going to have her "Where Blogger Create" Party again this year I knew I wanted to be part of it!! My little craft cottage is a dream come true! It was my 25th wedding anniversary present from my husband, even though it took several years to complete. He and my sons worked on it during the slow time of year, but it was worth the wait. They did most of the work themselves.

This is where I create, inspire and sometimes just come to relax, I like to just sit, look out the window and watch the birds at the bird bath and at the feeder. Sometimes I just sit on the little porch and drink a glass of ice tea. My husband will join me and we will share the happenings of the day. It's not uncommon for someone to drop by for a visit. I've had lot of nice chats in my craft cottage, I've had more than one tell me it's a very peaceful place.

In my craft cottage I teach art and craft classes to home schoolers and I have friends over to create with me. Most of the time it's just me. I pop in a CD (usually worship music)and just enjoy what I love to do the most....create. I love to dapple in many medias, but my favorite crafts are mixed media, card making and fabric collages.

Going To Peru

It's been crazy crazy busy around my house this summer. I had all these plans and so far I've not had any time to do them. But the last two weeks, my busyness has been for a good cause. We had a garage sale to help our middle son Patrick. He is raising money to go to Peru the end of this month on a missionary trip with our church. We had so much stuff donated to sell that we had the garage sale two weekends in a row. It was such a blessing to see people give extra when they found out what the proceeds were going for!! I have to say I'm very proud of my son, he is my shy one. To see him step up and do this has been such a blessing for his dad and I. Through this I have already seen his faith grow, because he has seen how God is providing for this trip. I ask that you keep him and the whole team in your prayers as they travel and do the work God has put before them. Thanks!!!

Garden Art Day

Today I participated in one of the events at The Calendar Garden. This is my first time at this cute garden center. It's just outside of Magnolia, Texas. Today was Garden Art Day. We planted red, white and blue flowers just in time for the 4th Of July. I had lots of fun with the other ladies. I plan to go the the next one in July.

This is the blue glazed pot that I planted red, white and blue flowers in. It will look very nice on my craft cottage porch. I think I am going to stick some American flags into it.

Lemon Cucumbers

Lemon Cucumbers
I wanted to post this picture of my heirloom Lemon Cucumbers that I have been growing in my garden. My hubby said he thinks these are the best cucumber he has ever eaten, they are very good. They are called Lemon Cucumber because of their shape and size. They don't have a lemon taste though. I plan to use them for Bread and Butter pickles, if I can enough before they are eaten.

I had been waiting and watching for my butterfly, checking everyday. However last week was very busy for me. I was helping every evening with Vacation Bible School at my church. Started working out at Curves. So one morning last week I went out to check and my butterfly had come out of it's Chrysalis, only I had missed it!!! I have to say I was a bit disappointed!!

Today I went out to the craft cottage to make some greeting cards, but I ended up doing some cleaning instead. Which it really needed. I'm not finished, but I can now see my work table. My sweet husband came out and said " I don't think you could get another thing in here", Hmmmm is that a challenge?

Between my garden and everything else going on I haven't had much time to work on my crafts, but I hope to get back to my crafting very soon!!! I have several projects I would like to finish before the summer is over.

In My Herb Garden #4

Just a quick update on my Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillar. Yesterday evening I went out to check on my caterpillar, In just a few hours had already gone from the pre-pula stage into the Chrysalis stage!! I wish I had checked back just a little earlier, I may had seen it happening. Oh well, I guess I can't stand over it like a mother hen!! Next the Chrysalis should become transparent, then I will know the time is near for a beautiful butterfly to emerge. I am enjoying watching this metamorphosis process!!!! I do hope I get a picture of the butterfly before it flies away!

This morning I went out to check on the Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillar. I noticed that he had attached himself to a stem on my dill plant. This is the pre-pupa stage. From what I read it will stay this way for 1-2 days and then the chrysalis begins forming. And it should emerge as an adult butterfly in 8-14 days. I hope I am around when that happens!!

Eastern Black Swallowtail Caterpillar

The other day when I made my morning rounds of my gardens I spied this little guy munching away on my dill plants. It's a Eastern Black Swallowtail caterpillar. I only have two dill plants, because I have a small herb garden. My dilemma, do I leave him alone or do I remove him. The only thing these caterpillars eat are dill, fennel, parsley and rue. Well out of those I only have dill. So when I found that out moving him wasn't an option anymore. My friend said I should leave him and she would let me have any dill seeds I want. So I decided to just enjoy watching him eat my dill and grow. Maybe I will even see him when he becomes a beautiful butterfly!!!

Altered Bottle and Fabric Tag

I really enjoy doing altered art of any kind. This an old vintage bottle I added some fun things to. The pendant with faces are from my collection of old vintage photos, the pendent was originally an older piece that I either got at a garage sale in a box of costume jewelry or it was in some stuff someone gave me. I can't remember which, but I had fun redoing it . I have a photo of what it did look like before I changed it.

This a fabric tag I made for a very sweet fellow blogger, I hope she likes it!

I made the little bird nest out of copper wire and I made the eggs out of polymer clay that I tinted light blue with just a small amount of blue clay added to white clay. Then I shaped them into egg shapes, put them in the copper nest and baked them. The nest is about the size of a quarter.

I'm not the best gardener and I don't claim to be an Herbalist, but I do enjoy growing herbs in my little herb garden. Last year my friend Pam of Thyme Square Farms suggested I try Bee Balm in my garden. I had a hard time finding it, but one day my husband and I were in a home improvement store. I wondered over to the garden area. I asked if they had any Bee Balm plants, the lady said we just gone some on a truck a few hours ago. So I bought one plant and took it home, planted not really knowing too much about it. It grew, but not much. This year inspite of a drought we are having in Texas, it has taken off!! It had spread and has been putting on the prettiest blooms. I was told by my gardening friends that it makes a great tea! So I picked a few leaves and let them brew in some hot water. They were right it was delicious!!! And good for you too!!! I read that a cup before bed will help you to sleep. It can also be used to cook with and that the flowers are very attractive in salads. I would highly recommend it if you like to grow herbs.

My bee balm has spread into my oregano, that's the plant with the small white flowers. The taller plant in the background is my bee balm.

Tea I made from my Bee Balm leaves, it had kind of a minty taste. Another name is for Bee Balm is Horsemint. I sweeten it slightly with just a small amount of raw local honey. But I tried it before I sweeten it and it was sweet enough to drink without the honey. But I wanted to try it with honey so I could compare it.

Tanda Teaser Card "Get Well" Theme

I made this card for the Tanda Teaser at Tanda Stamps. Sue organizes the Tanda Teaser. The theme this time was "Get Well". I've had this cute bear stamp for along time, I colored it using water color pencils. I think this would make a nice card for a child or someone who is a child at heart. Anyone can join in the Tanda Teaser and you don't have to use Tanda Stamps.
The other two cards I made are not for the Tanda Teaser, but I thought I would post them anyway.

I made this card for a young friend who just graduated from high school. These are her favorite colors. The stamps are from Stamp-n-Up.

I'm So Blessed

This last week I have been so blessed by several friends with some wonderful gifts!!! I want to share with you the photos and thank each one of you!!!!

This adorable bird flew here all the way from Washington State!!! It was a gift from one of my new blogger friend Sherry, you can see her wonderful blog, Blessing From Our Nest. I love it and will treasure it Sherry, you are a very talented lady!! Thank you so much!!

This ceiling fan is one of my Mother's Day gifts, my sweet hubby gave it to me. I've been waiting along time to get one. Before I just had wires hanging from craft cottage porch. Now I can sit out there on warm summer evenings and sip my favorite peach ice tea. And when it gets dark I now have a porch light!!!

This beautiful wine glass was a gift from my dear friend, Ruth. She painted it herself. Isn't it pretty. I have another piece she's painted and I treasure it too!! Again Thank you so much Ruth!!!

In Memory of my Mother

As we all know this Sunday is Mother's Day here in the USA. So in honor of my mother I thought I would post a few photos of her. Her name was Mary, she was the youngest of four children. She was born and raised in England. She met my dad while he was stationed in England, they married there. He brought her back to Texas, where they made their home. They were married over fifty years. My mother died in 2001 after battling cancer for eight months. She was a loving and giving woman. She worked in the public and sometimes it seemed that everyone knew her. It was hard to walk through a store with her, because we were constantly being stop with "Hello Mary". Up until her illness she was a bundle of energy and was always helping people in any way she could. I miss her very much!! I would say, if you mother is still with you give her a big hug and tell her how much she means to you!!!

On Saturday I had a wonderful day. Mostly because I got to spend it with my wonderful husband. He has a new schedule at work and he now has Saturdays off. He had heard about a Antique Show in a small town not too far from us Montgomery ,Texas. I had several items I was looking for. I prayed as we drove there about what and even how much I would like to pay for what I was looking for. Number one being vintage wedding photos at a price that was affordable for me. I was so blessed I found some wonderful ones. I haven't taken a picture of them yet. But what I did take a picture of was the buttons and a few of the vintage postcards I bought. You see our Lord cares about us so much and He wants to bless us. I give Him all the glory!!! I got all these buttons for $4.95 and the postcards for .50 each. These will look great on my art projects!!!

My Royal Wedding Celebration

I was up early to watch the Royal Wedding. I got up at 3:45 am this morning and you would have thought it was Christmas morning. I've been looking forward to this for weeks! I have always had an interest of England and of the Royal family. My mother was from England, she met my dad who was stationed in England during World War 2. He brought her home to Texas, so she was a war bride. This morning I fixed myself a pot of tea and nibbled on some cookies and enjoyed the wedding and it's celebration. I'll be ready for bed pretty early tonight I'm sure.

Teacup Pincushion

This morning when I was reading Sherry's blog at Blessings From Our Nest, she was showing a photo of the wonderful things she had received in a swap. One of of the items was an adorable Teapot pin cushion. It made me think of how I was blessed some years ago. I was just getting into quilting and I had gone to a quilting group. They were going to do a pincushion swap at the meeting. I didn't know how to make a pincushion!!! So I decided not to participate, however when I got there a sweet lady had brought extra pincushions for anyone who didn't bring one. So they put a number on each pincushion and then we drew a number. So you got which ever pincushion that matched your number. I had spotted an adorable pincushion made from a real teacup. Since I collected tea cups I really wanted that one. So I prayed and asked God to let me have the teacup pincushion. I believe it's OK to ask God for even the little things. That doesn't mean I get everything I ask for, but I believe he wants that kind of relationship with us. Where we know we can come to him with everything, He is my Father and I am his daughter! Well I had the number 12, so as we counted down and each pincushion was being claimed I held my breath. When it came to my number, I looked at the teacup and there it was, the number 12!!!! So I keep the pincushion next to my sewing machine and every time I look at it, it's another reminder of how much God loves me, His daughter! And even better He loves each of you the same way!!!!

I haven't made too many cards lately, but here is one I made several weeks ago. The sentiment is from Stamp n Up. The flamingo and the top flowers are from My Paper Studio. I used glitter on the flamingo and flowers. I added lace and rhinestones.

Saturday morning I went to a Ladies' Brunch at my church and I won the centerpiece at my table. It was this lovely Calla Lily plant. I planted it in my backyard, I love it!!!!

Easter Greeting

I made this little Easter decoration several years ago. Since I had never blogged it I thought I would show it to all of you. The box is one of those boxes that candy hearts come in at Valentine. I enlarged the rectangle opening and painted it blue. Added lace and rick rack. I punched out flowers from several different flower punches and layered them. I made the little basket from polymer clay, I had the the little eggs in my stash. I also had the little bunny, but one of ears had been broken off so I made him a new one using polymer clay. Then I just glued it on.

Cup of Comfort #3

Here's my third "Cup of Comfort" wall hanging. I layered it with some lace and one of the lace hankies I bought awhile back. The vintage photo is printed onto fabric and I sewed on some old vintage lace around it. Used a doily that I cut in half to put under my teacup. I made fabric flowers and ribbon flowers. Sewed some old buttons into the middle of the flowers. The cameo is a button that I sewed onto a rosette of some old lace. I used a fabric marker to write out the quote. I sewed on some embellishments I had. So far I think this one is my favorite.

Visiting the Farm

This morning I went to see my friend Pammy, she grows organic and heirloom vegetables. It's still early in the growing season, so her plants are still babies. So I posted some pictures I've taken through the years past. Except this one, I never leave empty handed, she shared these wonderful vegetable plants with me. In the background you can see my little raised garden bed. It's small and this photo makes it look even smaller. I hope they will grow and that I don't kill them? Thanks Pam!!!

On My Porch

My New Trellis This is a picture of my new trellis. I wanted a place to grow some Morning Glories on my craft cottage porch. So I asked my sweet husband to build me a trellis with some lattice, he had laying around. While I was standing outside telling him what I wanted, my eyes wondered over to this little gate. He had just helped my sons knock down this little fenced in area at their apartment and this little gate was sitting there waiting to be hauled off to the burn pile. No way I was going to let them burn this little jewel, it would be perfect for my porch. I had vision!!!!! So he added the little gate to my trellis. Then I had him add some chicken wire, so I could hang decorations from it. He had added the wire before I painted it so the chicken wire ended up with white paint on it, so it doesn't show up in the pictures. I've started putting stuff on it, but it still needs more. That's part of the fun looking for things to decorate it with. I think it makes my little porch cozy. Today my friend and I sat out there watching the birds and enjoying the nice weather. Now I can't wait for it to fill up with pretty Morning Glories growing all over it!!!

My friend Ruth gave me this nest and eggs( they were abandoned). She thought they would look pretty in my craft cottage. I put them out on my new trellis for now, but I will take them back inside, before it gets too hot here in Texas. Which could be an hour from now, next week or in a month? In Texas you never know for sure.

Here are my baby Morning Glories. I know that I went over board growing this many. I just wanted to make sure I some survive, I've not had much luck growing them before. So the way I see it, the more I plant to better chance I have of growing enough to cover the trellis.

I teach an arts and craft class to 4 little home schooled girls, I know there are only 3 in the photo. The 4th one hadn't started my class when this photo was taken. This is one of my favorite pictures, they are taking a break from class here. They love to play on my hammock!! We were going to make paper at our next class, however it's suppose to rain that day. So we will wait until it's nice sunny warm day! And in two weeks we are going to make a mini scrapbook. I have so much fun teaching them, they are such a joy to me!

The Old Chicken Farm Art Center

A few weeks ago I went with two of my former college friends Kay and Sally to San Angelo, Texas for a Baptist Student Union Reunion. While were in San Angelo, we went to The Old Chicken Farm for their First Saturday of the Month Day. The weather was wonderful! If you ever find yourself in San Angelo, Texas on the first Sat. you should check them out.

Tussy Mussy are a small bouquet of fragrance flowers. Here is a link that tells more about the Tussy Mussy http://www.ehow.com/how_2143831_victorian-tussy-mussy.html . I made the blue one on the left some time ago. I used some blue handmade paper, white lace and little silk flowers. I just made the one on the right today. My husband had given me the pretty lady figurine when we were first married. She had a run in one day with my son's ball. I tried to repair her with some glue and if you didn't look too close.....well. When I was unpacking her from our last move it seems she had broken again? The crafter in me couldn't bring myself to throw her away!! I had so much fun making the blue Tussy Mussy holder knew I wanted to make some more. I decided I should make one to put my pretty lady in!! I had bought two pink doilies a few months ago. I loved them, they were so delicate looking. I wrapped one of them around the velvet blue paper I used to make the cone shape. I made the lady a skirt of white tulle. Tucked her in the Tussy Mussy holder and added some vintage flowers I bought at a garage sale last summer. I think it is the perfect home for her!! Now I can enjoy her again!!!

A nice cup of tea is one of my comfort foods. I like it with cream and sugar on a cold day! I've been working on a series of tea cup wall hangings. I call them "Cup of Comfort". I'll be showing more of the wall hangings on this blog as time goes on. I bought the doilies on this wall hanging at a antique store. Yes, I cut the blue doily in half. It was hard to do it, but sometimes we have to make sacrifices for our art!!!

My dear friend Lesley who lives in the UK loves the movie"The Wizard of Oz" . So when I saw this fabric at a quilt store, I knew I had to get some to make something for Lesley. I wasn't sure what I was going to make, so when I was looking through one of my favorite magazines "Cloth Paper Scissors". I saw this little fabric book with a fabric envelope for each page, I knew this would be perfect. This way I could put some little gifts in each little envelope. I really like it and plan to make more of them. She sent me an e-mail telling me that it had arrived on her birthday and loved it!!!

Christmas Cards

I know that Christmas has come and gone, however I have not posted on my blog much. So missed putting anything on my blog last Christmas. I had made two Christmas Cards that were very special to me. They are similar but different. I just really wanted to share them!!!

I took an old black and white photo of my older sister, older brother and myself playing in the snow. It wasn't the best picture, but it was the only one I had of us in the snow. We didn't get lots of snow in West Texas. I scanned and printed it. I took some pastels and gave it some color. I added fine glitter to highlight the snow. I made some crepe paper rosettes and added glitter to them and some embellishments. I made one for my sister and one for my brother. I think they really liked them, because they were so personal.

Several weeks ago I was co-hosting a baby shower with my friend Pam. We were using my Grandma Scott's old china and one of the plates was accidentally broken. It happens, no need to cry over spilled milk or broken plates. I must admit the first thing that popped into my head was " Oh I'll use it for a mosaic project that I've been wanting to do". That is after I comforted my friend who felt awful about breaking it. I'll go out and buy pretty plates to use for mosaics, but I can never bring myself to purposely break them!!! So here was the perfect opportunity. I've had this old cheese cover just waiting to use it for this project! I sanded it and painted it pink to match the china. Now this is my first mosaic and I didn't do the best job. But practice makes perfect and I have another old cheese cover, if someone wants to come over and a break some of my china? Just kidding!!!! So when Life Gives you Lemons........Mosaic!!!!

Is it a Hat or a Tutu

Last Christmas I made Tutu's for the little girls in my Sunday School class. I was showing them to my son Daniel. The first thing he did was put it on his head. Isn't he a adorable? Definitely silly, but he can't help it. He got it from his mother!!! I wish I had a photo of one of the little girls wearing it the proper way. I'm sure the tutu's are cuter on the girls, maybe. I'll try to get one. Oh and I didn't leave the boys out I made them Super Hero Capes.

Thanks to my son Patrick who helped me figure out another way to down load pictures on my computer. I now can update my blog. Here is a photo of another Altered Altoid Tin. I made this one for my friend Sharon C. for her birthday. I'm so behind on my craft projects, but I'm slowly getting them done. Now I'm behind taking photos of finished projects and getting the photos on my blog.

Awhile back I got a telephone call from an old friend, Alana. She is the sweet person who taught me all about the wonderful world of art stamping. Seemed she hadn't stamped in three years and wanted to give her stamps a new home. I gladly excepted them!!! If you read this Alana thank you again for thinking of me!!! I believe your stamps have been very happy with me!!!

Altered Valentine Candy Box

Well I just got "You need to be posting more you know!!!!" from my dear friend Lesley. My main excuse is "Well I can get my memory stick from my new camera to upload on my computer and without showing the photos of my crafts, what else can I do?" And I have so many new projects I want to show you!!!!! So until then, I will show you an old craft project that I did for Valentine's Day.

This was made from a candy box that the little heart candies come in, you know the ones with the little messages on them. You see I can't throw anything away, I've always had that issue! However in some ways it has paid off, because I've found a way to use my treasures in my art. It's call altered art. I've had that plastic heart with the love banner across it for years and it was perfect for this piece!!! So when little Hannah said that " Miss Donna has thousands of things in her craft cottage", she was right. And even if Billy (my dear husband) did roll his eyes up when Hannah said that, I will find some use for each item, eventually. A course I keep adding to my collection, with the help of garage sales and friends who clean out their junk jewelry, their children's toy boxes, etc... Well anyway with all that said, I hope everyone has a wonderful Valentine's Day this year!!!!

Altered Altoid Tins

The Knots In My Life

The other day when I was at my embroidery class. My friend made a comment, that her sister would not approve of her embroidery piece. She went on the say that the back was not pretty and neat.
It got me thinking, my life is like that embroidery piece in many ways. Knotted, frayed ends, threads that start from one point going to what seems to be a random direction, crossing other threads. Some places it resembles a pattern, there are even beautiful colors worked into it. I may try to make it neat and pretty. No matter how hard I try, it still looks messy.
Then I asked myself, is it my handiwork or is it God's? When I look up at it I see a mess, but when God looks down at it He sees a beautiful picture! Without all those messy knots that handiwork would fall apart. So I thank God for the knots in my life, no matter how bad they may look. Others may not always see me as a beautiful piece, but God does. Maybe we need to look pass the messy knots and the frayed ends in ourselves and in others to see what God sees. A beautiful work of art!!!

Well since I can't my new camera's memory stick to load up on the computer. I decided to post some older photos. This last summer I went to San Angelo, TX to visit my sister. It just won't be the same if I didn't go to the local quilt shop. Every Friday morning they have a free work day. Women bring what ever projects they are working on and bring it to the shop. They work on their project and visit. This is where I got the idea to have a Craft Day in my Craft Cottage. Outside the shop is one of San Angelo's Art Sheep. They have them all over San Angelo. I've got pictures of quite a few of them. I don't believe I have pictures of all them. Which I may be posting, just so I can keep up with my blog.

Mini Scrapbook For Pam

At the first part of the Summer of 2009 I visited my friend Pam. She and her husband have a farm where they grow organic vegetables and herbs. While I was there I took lots of photos of her adorable farm and her little grandson Matt. When I got home I made her a little Scrapbook, I didn't want to put it on my blog until I got a chance to surprise her with it. Last Friday my son and I visited her. She loved the scrapbook. It's official my youngest is graduating this Saturday!!!! He passed all his exams and is heading out the high school door. It's kind of sad in some ways. Remembering his first day of school when he was a little fellow. I must say it hasn't always been easy trying to keep this creative boy of mine focused. But I know it will all be worth it. I know God has great things for him!!

Last week I was able to go to one of my favorite shopping places. "Old Town Spring". If you live or are coming to the Houston area you should check out Old Town Spring, It is several blocks of interesting houses that has been turned into shops. They have all kinds of shops there and restaurants. When my sister visits me we usually go there. Well I found this cute teapot at a shop called "Shabby Rose", it's one of my favorite shops. It's the perfect color for my craft cottage and it has a cottage look. It was also put out by Avon. So it is a collectible. Since I collect Teapots I just couldn't pass it up!

I made this birthday card for my friend Charlotte. It was one of those super easy cards. The paper is from The Blossums & Butterflies stack by DCWV, it already comes glittered. I cut out the "Happy Birthday" with my cricut die cutter. The little jewel originally goes on the Crocs shoes, I bought it on clearance and just popped off the backing and glued it on the card.

Altered Altoid Tin

I made this for my friend Charlotte's birthday. I Hope she doesn't see this because I haven't given it to here yet! She is the sweet lady who has been teaching me to quilt. The little sheep represents me, So every time she looks at it she will know I made this for her in love!! I bought the mini spools and wrapped thread around each one. They aren't perfect, but that's OK I guess?

My Magnolia Tree

We have a little scrawny Magnolia tree in our front yard. It was here when we moved in about 4 years ago. I remember to water occasionally. I guess I never really thought it would amount to anything. But this morning I was watering my flower beds and I just happen to look up. To my surprised it had a big beautiful bloom. I pull it down and smelled it. Awww it had that wonderful smell that only comes from a Magnolia flower. I ran in and got my camera, just as I was taking the picture a bee showed up. How perfect is that!!!

Just to show you never give up on anything or anyone. I thank God that He has never given up on me. He sings over me (Zephaniah 3:17) and just like the bee I hope others can come to me and go away with the sweet nectar that God has filled me with!! His love and His wisdom .

Mothers' Day

I hope all of you had a wonderful Mother's Day!! I know I did. My boys made me feel very special. I got a dozen red roses, some money to use for crafting supplies and a cute card. My family took me out to eat after church to a nice Italian restaurant. Then home to rest.

I had a blast in my Sunday school class, the children made cards for their moms and colored little crosses. They were still working on them, when their mom's came to get them when the service was over. They were so cute saying "Don't look mom I'm not finished!" You should have seen the smiles on their mother's faces!!

I also thought of my mom and how much I miss her and my mother in law who died almost to the year after my mom died. If your mother is still alive enjoy her while you can!! Here's a special Thank You to all Mothers and for all you do!!

Thyme Square Farm

Friday I spent the morning at my friend Pammy's farm, you can find the link to her web page right here on my blog. Here are some vegetables and herbs she sent me home with. The weather was wonderful, not the heat and humidity we've been having. In the next day or two I'll put some more pictures of her farm, but today I'm showing some photos of her little helper, her grandson Matt. I had a blast playing with him, he even shared his dirt with me by bringing me little shovels full over and over. He shared his toy trucks and he chased me with the water hose. He was so cute in his little overalls.

I spend a lot of time on flickr looking at other crafters creative spaces. I've notice most of them have one thing in common, well other than be very talented creative people. They all seem to have a cat. I use to have a cat, but since I'm catless atm, I thought I would borrow Lisa Long's cat for my blog. Or should I say her son Ben's cat. I took this photo as I set enjoying a beautiful morning on their porch. Now I use to have a cat that looked very similar to this one, only he a had a black spot on the tip of his nose. Billy got him for me our first Christmas together. I suppose some day I will get a cat, after all every crafter should have a cat for their crafting space. Right?

My Craft Cottage Porch

Here's a photo of my Craft Cottage Porch. It's not completely finished. Billy and I sit out there sometimes in the evening. It's great place to sit and chat or just watch the birds. There are some Red Tail Hawks that live in the tall trees that grow on the vacant lot behind my house. So this is a invitation to any of you to come by and we can sit and chat. What have I been doing for the last two days? Well it hasn't been crafting. I've been cooking! I've made dishes to put up in the freezer. Billy and I went to Sam's (where you buy in bulk). So I've been dividing meat into small portions and wrapping it for the freezer. Do I like to cook you ask? Sometimes, but the older I get the more I realize there are other things I would rather do. Like crafting, shopping, reading and gardening. OK gardening falls into the same category as cooking. I have to be in the mood and I like the end results more than the process. I have to laugh my two youngest sons (ages 20 and 23) have shown a very strong interest in cooking lately? I mean they are spending their money on cook books, knife sets, pots and pans. They are watching cooking shows. buying seasonings, spices and ingredients. They are trying new recipes and leaving my kitchen a mess. OK we are working on that part. One is better than the other! They show an interest when I try a new recipe and ask me questions. It's almost scary in a good way? Guess who's cooking Thanksgiving Dinner next November!!!!

Jasper, Texas

This last weekend I was in Jasper, TX for a Mother/Daughter Retreat. It was very much a blessing. I was with the daughters when they separated for their special classes and crafts. I taught one of the classes and when the Retreat was over I got a hug from each one. Well when it was time to leave my friend's car wouldn't start. So we were forced to stay over night. Thanks to Lisa Long and her family, who let us stay the night at their home. Here is a picture of their wonderful home. Sunday we went with them to church. For those of you are are Watching American Idol, you will be familiar with Michael Sarver. We went to his church and he was there that morning. He lead one of the worship songs, he has a beautful voice!! That was just the icing on the cake of a already wonderful weekend.

Texas Cattle and Bluebonnets

My OH and I had to drive to Brenham, TX on business today. The drive was beautiful, there were fields of Bluebonnets, the Texas state flower. This spot where we stopped to take the photo was very popular. Cars were lined up on the side of the road taking pictures. This time of year I always think of my mom, her birthday would have been in a few days. We always took a drive around her birthday to see the Bluebonnets, she loved Bluebonnets!!! So do I and I'm sure almost every Texan.

I pray all of you had a wonderful Easter!! I know I did, even though the rain poured all morning, by afternoon the sun was shining!!! This cute little Easter lamb was a gift from one of my friends, Brook. She goes to the church with me and is our Children's Ministry leader. Her little lamb Tyler is in my 4 & 5 year old class. The rain didn't stop our children at church from having a nice Easter. They had their egg hunt inside, they had Easter cookies, sang worship songs and played games. I love Easter!!!!

Happy Easter

There are two holidays I love Thanksgiving and Easter!! Easter is a time that I really reflect on what Jesus, my Savior has done for me!! He is Risen!!!

When I was little my mom would go all out, making me a beautiful new dress, buying me shining new black shoes, a new hat, gloves and if I could talk her into it a new purse. But my favorite was the new slip, the kind that made my dress stick out and made a crackle sound when I sat down. LOL

When we went to the breakfast table, there was always a big chocolate egg sitting at each plate. Than in the after church we would have an Easter Egg hunt. I love the memories....

We have our own traditions now. My boys are too big for Easter egg hunts now, but I still buy them each a chocolate bunny.

Easter reminds me of Spring. I love the wildflowers and to take a drive through the country to see the Bluebonnets.

I also get the urge to dig in the dirt, to clean out the flower beds, plant flowers of all colors.

Easter......smell of flowers, Easter candy, pretty pastel colors in the stores. These are things that bring a smile to my face!!

I know I've been missing in action. Sorry everyone!!! I've had lots going on in my life the last few months. I'll try to do better!!

I spent most of last weekend at my friend Charlotte's home. I'm finally learning to quilt!!!Besides Charlotte and I there were three other ladies. Janie, Kathy and Patty. Patty is Charlotte's big sister and Kathy is Patty's best friend. What a blessing, they both teach quilting classes, I was in good hands. They all taught me so much. Friday night, they started me on a String Quilt, Sat. morning Patty taught me how to do a braid. Sat. afternoon we went on a field trip to a cute little quilt shop in Montgomery, TX. When we returned to Charlotte's house she showed me how to do a Stack and Slash quilt using my new fabric I bought at the quilt shop. Then we went to a local restaurant, where I had some wonderful Fried Shrimp, then I had to head home, but Charlotte sent me out with a bag full of scraps to use on my String quilt. Only I forgot to bring my backing, so I've not been able to work on my quilt. However I have all my scraps ironed and ready to go!!

Tea Party for One

I didn't have time to plan a tea party, so I had one for myself this morning using my new teapot a gift from my friend Dianna. I also used my new tea cup and a plate I bought at an antique shop when I went to Huntsville, Texas a few weeks ago. The tea came from my friend Lesley who sent it to me for my birthday all the way from England. The cookies are from a local bakery.

Sheep of the Week

This week's sheep is the part of the Willow Tree collection. It's called "Peace on Earth". I bought it last summer on my trip to Lubbock, Texas to visit my cousin June. Right after I bought it, we went to visit an old friend, Margaret. I hadn't seen her in close to 20 years. When I got to her home I noticed some sheep on her shelves, I even had some of the same sheep in my collection. Come to find out she also collected sheep. So I went out to the car and carried in this figurine to show her. She loved it! I was afraid she wasn't going to let me leave with it.

We went to Huntsville, Texas for the weekend. Our first stop was the Sam Houston Statue. This statue is clearly seen miles away as you drive up I-45. I remember the first time I saw it. I remember thinking what in the world is that, its so BIG. This statue stands 67 foot high. For those of you who do not know who Sam Houston is...a little history lesson. He played a big part of Texas history. Houston was statesman who was President of Texas twice, a U.S. Senator for Texas. He was Commander in Chief of the Army of the Republic of Texas. He was Governor of Tennessee and of Texas. He lived a very colorful life. Houston, TX is named after him.
While we were in Huntsville we also visited the Sam Houston Memorial Museum and his gravesite. We went to the Texas Prison Museum, which was interesting. And last but not least we went shopping in downtown Huntsville. Love antique stores!!!

Sheep of the Week

I bought this adorable sheep last Easter. I think I got it at Hobby Loppy. I love it! I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter. I know I did. My son's are too old for Easter egg hunting, but it doesn't stop me from making them a Easter bag full of Easter candy. My precious husband gave me a large Chocolate Kiss, one of my favorite candy! He also gave me a beautiful Easter Lily. When I came home from church there was an adorable yellow bunny holding a chocolate Easter Egg, a gift from my oldest!!!! But I can't talk about Easter without telling everyone why Easter is so special to me. It's because this is the time of year that we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus. He is Alive!!!

This weeks sheep is the smallest sheep in my collection. I can't remember when I got it or even where. She is made of plastic and for some reason is always falling over. Maybe the bigger sheep are pushing her over when I'm not looking!

I made this card using the beautiful stamp that my friend Lynn sent me from England. It was a Christmas gift from her and I love it!! I wrapped fibers around a white ribbon and used a cheery red.

My "Sheep of the Week", is a Jim Shore collectible. I love this sheep because it has a folk art quality and I love the quilt. My husband, Billy bought it for me on one of our outings we took together. Can't remember which one and exactly when, but that's case with most of my sheep. Some of them I remember all the details, who gave it to me or where I got it from, the year
etc... When I look at some of the collection of my sheep I draw a blank, I can't recall anything about it, just that I like it.

Chair Teapot

A few years ago, my husband bought me a teapot in an antique shop. After that it seem my teapot collection just kind of happened. Maybe I don't have many by some peoples standards, but each one is special to me. I found this adorable chair and cat teapot in an antique mall a few months ago. I loved the pretty pink roses, I wish I had a real chair like it. The cat reminds me of the one Billy got me as a present on our first Christmas together. Only he a had a black spot on his nose.

Frame for Lorraine

I made this frame for my Tanda Forum friend Lorraine for her birthday. I used pieces of scrapbook papers, rubber stamped the blue bird, ribbon and lace. The bottom burgundy color is velveteen paper and I embellished it with buttons, a pearl stick pin and an old ink pen tip I had. Added a tassel and added a nice message for Lorraine, which if she wants she can replace with a photo. I liked the way it turned out. I plan to make some more in the future.

Chocolate Turnover

Look at what my youngest son, Nathan surprised me with today. He stopped at Arby's on his way home from school and got me a Chocolate Turnover. It was a total surprise, he knows how much I love chocolate. Wasn't that so sweet of him and believe me it was yummy.

I found these cool jars at a resale shop , they will be perfect for my craft cottage. They are candy jars. The colored ribbons remind me of candy. They were a bargain, only 50 cents each. Not sure which makes me happiest, getting a bargain or finding such pretty jars. O.K. both!

This weeks "Sheep of the Week" is my latest sheep. It was a Christmas present from my sister Christine. It's made with cloth yo-yo's, I also have a white one made just like it, I think they were both made by the same person. It's one of the 3 black sheep I have in my collection.

Valentine's Day will be here in two days. I can't wait, not that I love Valentine's Day so much. I work for a major card company and this is my busiest time of year. Each day when I go into work, I'm greeted by a mess of cards and envelopes, It usually takes about two hours to straighten up and restock Valentine cards. That doesn't count the party products, gift bags and gift items to straighten up. I'm counting the days for Valentine's to come and go. I took the photo above after I straightened the cards this morning.

I collect sheep, so I thought it would be fun to feature each week, one of my sheep. I will call it "My Sheep Of The Week", I'll show a photo and tell something about it. So to start off I thought I would tell about the ewes that got me started. These two gals were my first, About twenty years ago, I was in a Christmas Shop and I saw these two, So I took them home, snipped off their little red ribbons and replaced it with blue to match my color scheme. I've been adding to my sheep collection ever since and no, I don't name them. I just enjoy them. I hope you enjoy them too!

Hannah's 4th Birthday Party

When I was a little girl, I loved my dolls! They were definitely played with, dragged around, fed mud pies , their hair brushed, braided and even cut. I had all kinds of dolls from Barbie to baby dolls. When I was a teenager I collected rag dolls. Now that I'm a grown woman, I still love dolls. I can spend hours looking through stores that sell dolls. I have my own collection and I inherited my mother's collection. Having all boys, I really never got to pass on that love, even though they were given a few dolls in their childhood. So when I was invited to Hannah's Birthday Party, I had a rare opportunity to look through all the dolls for one I could purchase for a precious little girl, Hannah is my friend Dawn's little girl and is in my Sunday School class. I wasn't even sure she played with dolls, someone told me girl's just don't play with dolls like they use to? Well not in Hannah's case, she loves dolls and I think she really liked the one I picked out. Above is a picture of Hannah holding the doll I gave her. Maybe someday I will have granddaughters to pass on that love and my own dolls, if not I'm sure I will find other little girls to pass on that love.

This is my first blog, I'm looking forward to meeting other creative people. A chance to share my crafts and some of my life with old friends, new friends and family.

As I start this new venture, I have to give my Savior, Jesus Christ all the thanks and glory for all my blessings. He is the one who has blessed me with any talents I have. It's my heart's desire to never forget that and to always bring Him the honor in what ever I say or do.
